CLASS OF ‘95
Chi Troung – 6’1" Excellent rebounder because of his tall size. He often tips the ball back in after getting offensive rebounds. Shoots quickly, almost like lobbing the ball towards the basket, but the shot will swish through. Another thing is that he doesn't care where he shoots from. He shoots quite often on the sides where defense is more relaxed. Even if he is a few inches away from the three point line, he will still shoot, rather than moving forward for a closer shot or dribbling back for a 3 pointer attempt. Plays defense pretty well, but not transitional. Tires easily. Hasn’t improved his game for many years. Plays well with Tony, Bill, and Loi. |

Chris Chu – 5’11" Tall and effective all-around player. Plays any position. He scores a lot with his drives and turn-arounds. He loves driving over smaller people but is much more careful when larger people are guarding him. His turn-arounds are quite accurate, and are still getting better. He dribbles very well and rarely loses the ball. Makes good passes. Usually doesn’t try the 3 pointer or other long ranged shots, but he’s beginning to work on his shooting and attempting more shots. He works tenaciously and effectively at defense. Plays transitional defense. His long quick arms can easily disrupt other people’s dribbling. Grabs rebounds. Is able to post up quite a lot of people. Never slacks off and always moving around. Likes to tell other people what to do, such as telling them to get on their man or move into certain areas of the court. He’s getting better and better. |

Loi Ly – 5’7" Usually plays something like the shooting guard. On offense he finds the open spot, gets the ball and shoots, usually scoring. He doesn’t shoot 3 pointers often though. When he is closely guarded he doesn’t do much. He rarely ever drives. In fact he doesn't run around much at all. Plays team defense but not during transition. Doesn’t seem to be improving. In fact he seems to be going backwards. Tires easily. Plays well with Loi, Tony, and Bill. |
![]() |
Tony Pham – 5’6" Plays a very quick point guard. Drives the ball to the hoop quite effectively, even in the middle of a crowd. He doesn’t have a left though. Occasionally shoots the ball. Usually doesn't lose the ball. Plays defense well, but his transitional defense isn’t good enough. Every once in a while he gets a steal. Whenever he is tired, his presence on the court dissappears. The bad news is that he tires quickly. Hasn’t improved for years. Plays well with Chi, Bill, and Loi. |

CLASS OF ‘96
Bill Huynh – 5’7" Likes to make awkward drives to the basket. Many times the shots will goes in. He often gets fouled in the process but he still scores. He shoots a really weird overhead shot. Also, he can shoot the 3 pointer. His defense is decent. He can’t really guard quick players nor players taller than him. Tires easily. Has improved. Plays well with Chi, Loi, and Tony. |

Chun Kim – 6’2" Tall and big. Played on high school football team. Has some pretty good inside moves. Can also rebound. He isn’t an intimiditating defensive factor even though he is big because he doesn’t play defense very well. His biggest problem is the mental game. When he has possession, he easily loses his patience when double teamed. Rather than passing the ball out, he forces the shot. Also he like dribbling the ball when he should be more concerned with rebounding. By keeping the ball, turnovers happen because people get steals off him. Whenever he gets frustrated, he plays even worse. As a result, he just walks slowly across court during transition, doing nothing on offense nor defense. He has improved over the years and especially has potential because of his size, but until he breaks those mental barriers he cannot do well. |

Ken Chan – 6’0" Tall and big but pretty useless. Played on the junior varsity high school basketball team. He scores mainly near the basket with short turn-arounds or regular shots. However he still misses quite often even though it’s such a short ranged shot. Usually doesn’t shoot elsewhere. He also seems very uncoordinated because he drops all sorts of passes a lot. Really has "butterfingers." Many of his passes are bad and often mean turnovers. The worst problem of all is that he doesn’t seem to have the will to play. He may have it for maybe the first few points of a game but it always dissappears completely later on. Many people can outrebound him because he doesn’t jump nor attempt to box people out for position. When it is time to rebound, he just sticks his hands up in the air with his foot glued to the ground looking like a fool. Other times he just does absolutely nothing, waiting for the ball to fall in his hands rather than grabbing the ball. When this happens, other people will take it before the ball will drop to his hands. He is a terrible defensive player because he doesn’t do much. Although he occasionally blocks people, he usually allows people to drive right past him without putting up a challenge. His reaction time is also extremely slow. Will always come up with an excuse for his bad performance such as "They foul too much," "I don’t get the ball," or the ever popular "I just don’t feel like playing today." His talent has remained very much the same, with no improvement, perhaps because since he never seems to play for real, he can’t improve. |

Luong Phong – 5’7" One of the best players. Plays any position such as point guard or at down near the basket. Played on freshmen high school basketball team. He is very good at both offensive and defensive ends of the court. He is one of the most accurate shooters but he takes just a little time aiming. His lay-ups will be guaranteed 97 percent of the time unless he is fouled, which happens often. He doesn’t drive in as much as in the past because his weight/size prevents him from moving around and between people to get in. However, he often uses screens when driving. When a poor defensive player covers him, he will drive past that person without any help. He almost never forces the shot. He creates many good screens. He rarely loses the ball or makes bad passes. He creates many assists, always finding the open man and initiating good plays. One big problem is that he doesn’t take the initiative to score, often passing than shooting. However he will step up when needed to, sinking three pointers in. Has the best handles on the court but rarely uses them because he no longer has the speed to use them like the way he used to. He used to do showtime moves on fast breaks. He rebounds a lot even though he isn't very tall because he boxes people out, creates screens, and sets up many plays. He plays very smart defense, shuting down his man very often. He plays transitional defense, always quickly moving back to defend. Seemed to have lost the passion for basketball because he doesn’t attempt to improve himself anymore. In fact he is getting worse because he put on some weight. That puts a lot of restrictions on what he can do. Plays well with Mario. |

Mario Trujillo – 5’10" Played on freshmen high school basketball team. Heavily relies on his jumper. However, his shooting is inconsistent because he hasn’t been practicing. Can shoot really good and then really bad. Occasionally he’ll drive in when he sees that his shots aren’t going in. Creates good screens. He rebounds a lot by boxing people out. Plays team defense very well, but usually doesn’t play transitional defense, often taking a while to get back. Sometimes he's lazy and wants to quit, so his defense loosens up. If Luong's on his team then Luong will say that he will quit if Mario quit, or if people talk crap about him, then Mario will play hard again. Isn’t improving at all but in a struggle with his shooting, as shown by his inconsistent jumpers. Plays well with Luong. |

Michael Tran – 6’0" Appears bigger than he actually is. One of the best offensive players, and one of the most accurate. Lovse shooting the ball. Often the leading scorer. He really likes to drive in, especially when the lane isn’t clogged up. He loves going along the baseline for a lay-up or a reverse lay-up. His 3 pointer is also deadly, but it no longer has the consisency that it once had. Also, he has a turn-around, usually shot out of the box, that is 90% accurate. He really knows how to use his size and is perhaps the best rebounder, that is when he is motivated because he normally doesn’t box people out or aggressively goes for boards when competition isn’t tough. In fact his defense doesn’t exists unless there is really a good competitive basketball game. He will then play hard and good defense. Doesn’t play transitional defense. Anyway, he often intercepts passes. Plays basketball practically every day and his shooting continues to improve. Passes often to Charles. |
|
Sinh Saelee – 5’5" Very well rounded quick player. He makes quick inside shots through driving in. Ha no fear in shooting the ball. Has a quick 3 point shot which goes off even when guarded closely. Even shoots long 3’s. However his scoring comes like a streak. He is able to grab rebounds because he is aggressive. Has good team defense and often collaborates with other teammates to strip the ball away from someone, often creating a fast break. However his transitional defense contrasts a lot with his normal defense. Doesn’t seem to tire, even after long periods of inactivity. Hasn’t improved, but doesn’t really do some moves anymore such as shaking a little bit to confuse the defender. |

CLASS OF '97
John Ong – 5’9" Played on freshmen and junior varsity high school team. He can shoot the ball very well but he doesn't have enough confidence in his shot. If he misses he will shoot less and less until he no longer becomes an offensive presence. Anyway, he always has a very high shooting percentage. He also doesn't take the initiative to score, even when counted on. He usually looks the opposite direction when his team’s ball handler is dribbling down the court during transition, almost as if he is unwilling to receive the ball. Many times near the end of the close game, his teamates will want him to score because of his high field goal percentage, but he will become too scared to shoot it and will pass it to someone else. Whenever he drives a point is almost guaranteed, but he doesn’t do this much unless on a fast break. Has a very good left hand. He plays defense, but he needs to be much more aggressive by using his body more. He can definately do a lot of damage offensively, but he remains "humble John." He probably has not improved for a long time but who knows because he remains quite scared on offense. |

WILLIAM LAND GRADUATES
Charles – 5’3" Extremely short guy. However he drives to the basket and makes it a lot, when people don't take him seriously. Doesn’t cause a lot of turnovers. However he doesn't play defense and usually is floating on the offensive side of the court. Can’t really guard anyone. Plays well with Michael because Michael passes the ball to him in the inside.
John – tall guy. He can rebound the ball well and can drive. Plays pretty good defense.
Kenny - pretty tall guy. He never wears shorts but just jeans. He can rebound the ball quite well. He shoots well. He usually pumps when he shoots and many times when he is blocked, he immediately shoots again. Has a lot of "air time." Defense isn't very good because he isn’t aggresive enough.
Pau Lay- Big guy. Stays in the box area. He plays a little defense, rebounds, and shoots from that little area. Doesn't really move around a lot.
Wing - tall guy. He doesn't wear shorts like Kenny. He can rebound very well because of his height and long arms. He has some pretty good inside moves. Defense isn't very good because he isn't aggressive enough.
VARIOUS SOUTHSIDE PLAYERS
"Magic Wand" - Mexican guy. Shoots all sorts of weird shots but they go in. Rebounds a lot and does a lot of blocks. Very active on the court. However, he overdoes it quite often in offense, taking the ball by himself and not passing it to other people. As a result he forces the shot a lot. He hasn't played very often so his shooting is quite terrible.
"Redhead" - Two years ago he was really sorry. He often was staying on the offensive side of the court while his teammates were playing defense. He joined the McClatchy High freshmen basketball team but is still very sorry. He can somewhat dribble the ball. Makes terrible offensive decisions ad forces many shots.
"Scarface" – 5’6" Hustles a lot. Likes to make shots near the basket. Will play defense when needed.
Steve "Musty" – 6’0" Pretty big guy. His rebounding depends on who is guarding him. Stays near the hoop. After grabbing offensive rebounds or receiving passes, he does inside shots. Not aggressive enough. He does play defense, but he isn’t good enough at doing so. He will help others on defense.
"Father" – 5’5" Has a accurate shot when he is wide open. Otherwise he doesn't shoot. However, his lay-ups are ugly and don't go in. His defense isn't very good although he manages to pull rebounds every so often. He makes quite a lot of turnover because of bad passes and really bad shots when he makes a shot when he isn't facing the basket. Can't really guard anyone. Usually leaves a game because his daughter runs up to him and hugs his legs.
black who think he good - a young black player who thinks he's really good. He shoots jumpers and 3's, but they usually don't go in. He likes to drive but he can't do much if the person guarding him is decent because he can't go to his left. Not really a defensive presence. Mario & Luong like to talk trash to him because the black talks trash to many people. Easily frustrated. He's not good!
Lei – 5’8" Very active player. He drives often to the basket and pull many rebounds. He will play defense and is motivated. He plays aggressive. However, he is not well coordinated yet because lack of playing experience.
fast black with handles - A Valley Christian high school basketball player. The first time I heard of him was when Charles was saying that four people were guarding him and he still scores. Extremely athletic. Very good offensive player. He shoots the 3 pointer very quickly and accurately. He is very fast and makes spins and fancy dribbling to drive to the hoop. He jumps very high for the rebound or to tip balls back in. Very difficult to guard. In defense, he makes many steals and blocks. He is quite intimidating to many people because he is very quick. Often he intercepts passes. Because he attempts to steal a lot by getting too close and moving his hands forward, if he messes up, the guy he guards will get pass him. When the guy is moving pass him, he might foul the guy from behind.
Joseph - Chinese guy. Very aggressive. Uses his big body a lot. Likes to get close to the basket to shoot jumpers. However, he plays very rough offensively. Will use his body to push people out of the way. He will do many offensive fouls and will likely get whoever guarding him hurt. He doesn’t look around when he spins, so his forehead often crashes into other people. Usually will not pass to anyone except his brother. Even if he is trapped he will usually force the shot.
Pablo – Joseph’s brother. A rumor about him playing in a Spanish league. He is a better overall player than his brother, although less aggressive. He shoots pretty well, and doesn’t force his shots. He passes the ball quite a lot. However if his brother Joseph is on the same team as him, he will pass to him. Otherwise, he passes it to anyone. He is a good rebounder because he jumps fast and has really long arm. He attempts to tip the ball back in after misses. He plays defense somewhat.
